TWR High School Steeplechase

Spring and Summer 2025 Steeplechase Season
Open to Wilde Lake High School students.

We will begin our season after the Maryland State High School Outdoor Track and Field Championships in late May.

The season will consist of two practices per week, primarily at the WLHS track. Some practices will be held at other local tracks. Additionally, there will be a number of competitions over the summer that the team may participate in.

Our competitive season will begin on the weekend of June 6. There are three events in the area to choose from that weekend (final decision will be based on coach and team preferences):

-
Friday, June 6 to Sunday, June 8 brings us the AAU Maryland District Qualifier at Woodlawn HS in Woodlawn, MD. There is no steeplechase at this event, but the distance races will make good preparation for the steeplechase events to come later, as will the 400-meter hurdles.
-
Saturday, June 7 to Monday, June 9, there is the USATF Mid-Atlantic District Qualifier at Millersville University in Millersville, PA. This event includes a 2000-meter Steeplechase, as well as a host of distance events.
-
Finally, that same weekend, there is the AAU Potomac Valley District Qualifier at the Prince George's Sportsplex in Landover. There is a full complement of distance events but no steeplechase.
Throughout June and July, there are youth outdoor track meets in the Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Southern PA area every weekend. Some of these meets will include Steeplechase and some won’t. We will monitor the meet webpages for updated information as the season progresses.

June 25 to June 28 brings the USATF Youth National Championships at ICAHN Stadium in New York. This meet brings in club teams from all over the east coast. It includes a 2000-meter Steeplechase, as well as a full bill of distance events.

The culmination of our season will be at the July 21 to 27 USATF National Junior Olympics in Savannah, GA. For those who can make it, we will contest the National USATF Youth Championship in the 2000-meter Steeplechase.
